Choice Schools is pleased to share that Monecia Vasbinder is the 2023-2024 Choice Leader of Excellence recipient. Monecia is the principal of Three Oaks Public School Academy, a PreK through 6th grade charter school in Muskegon.
Each year, Choice Schools grants the Choice Leader of Excellence award to one school leader. Nominations are collected from school staff and school leaders within our network of educators. After another fantastic school year, Monecia was selected by her colleagues as this year’s Leader of Excellence.
Throughout her time at Three Oaks Public School Academy, Monecia has cultivated an environment that inspires collaboration and empowerment through clear communication between staff, students, and parents alike. She is constantly looking for ways to promote growth through partnership, and has forged connections with many community agencies to further support the needs of students and families at school.
“Monecia consistently demonstrates leadership qualities, unwavering dedication, and commitment to the success and well-being of her students and staff. She embodies kindness in every aspect of her work,” a staff member said in their nomination. “She approaches every interaction with warmth, compassion, and empathy.”
A primary goal of Monecia’s is ensuring all students and staff members are cared for both as individuals and members of the greater school unit. Largely in part due to the culture of belonging and teamwork that has been established at Three Oaks, the school was awarded Reward School status last year– marking Three Oaks Public School Academy as a shining example of growth and promise.
Another staff member said, “Monecia is dedicated to making sure all stakeholders in her school community have a voice. She advocates for her students, parents, and teachers to do what is best for everyone.”
