Curriculum

Three Oaks Public School Academy staff develops, implements, and evaluates curriculum annually. The process used to develop and implement curriculum in each of the core areas includes using the Expeditionary Learning (EL) program, Eureka Math, Mystery Science and Fountas and Pinnell Intervention programs.  Professional Learning Community teams (which are grade level teams) meet once a week to discuss curriculum, instruction, and assessments. The process used to evaluate curriculum documents is based on student achievement data. If student progress is low, instructional strategies and/or assessments are revised.  Choice Schools also provides a Curriculum Director to assist staff in designing, implementing, and evaluating curriculum. Staff will develop an assessment schedule for progress monitoring of student achievement a minimum of three times a year.

Academic Acceleration

The Academy’s educational program embraces the principle of accelerated learning in which students who demonstrate mastery of knowledge and skills are included in enrichment programs. For new students, a child’s class assignment will be made depending on a grade level assessment.

When we have a student that is excelling in their regular grade level classes, they are given the opportunity to learn at a higher grade level Advanced Group.  We also teach standards from higher grade levels to some of our students if they have mastered all their grade level assessments.

Summer Success Academy

Summer Success Academy is a tuition-free summer enrichment program offered to students who need additional instructional time to achieve proficiency. Students who master grade-level competencies during the summer enrichment program will be promoted to the next grade.

Special Subjects

In addition to the core academic subjects, all Three Oaks Public School Academy students receive enrichment in the following specials classes: Library, STEAM, Physical Education, and Music.

Library

During Library students will check out books as well as develop library skills such as author studies and learning the variety of genres of literature.

STEAM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Art/Mathematics)

In STEAM class, students are encouraged to learn through exploration and problem-solving.  Often students will work in collaborative teams to solve a problem that helps them explore topics in science, technology, engineering, art, or mathematics.  This class is designed to challenge students and help them build 21st-century skills they will need to become tomorrow’s leaders in innovation and invention.

Physical Education

Three Oaks PE takes a comprehensive approach to developing students and encouraging them to reach their full potential. Physical activity is combined with health education to develop each student and give the tools necessary to be successfully active and healthy in and out of the classroom. Each student is challenged to be actively engaged in each and every activity in order to get the most out of the time in the classroom. Written and observational assessments are conducted regularly culminating with an end of the year fitness test that measures each student’s cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility. Units taught include health topics, games, fitness activities, and team sports.
